පසුගිය ජනවාරි 03 වනදා ඇමරිකානු 'ඩෙල්ටා ෆෝස්' (Delta Force) බලකාය විසින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් වෙනිසියුලානු හිටපු ජනාධිපති නිකොලස් මදුරෝ සහ ඔහුගේ බිරිඳ සිලියා ෆ්ලෝරස් අද (ජනවාරි 05) නිව්යෝර්ක් හි මෑන්හැටන් ෆෙඩරල් අධිකරණය හමුවට ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමට නියමිතය. මත්ද්රව්ය ජාවාරම්, ත්රස්තවාදයට උදව් කිරීම සහ ආයුධ චෝදනා රැසක් ඔවුන්ට එරෙහිව ගොනු කර ඇත. මේ වන විට මදුරෝ බෘක්ලින් හි දැඩි ආරක්ෂිත රැඳවුම් මධ්යස්ථානයක රඳවා සිටින අතර, අද දහවල් 12ට (ලංකාවේ වේලාවෙන් රාත්රී 10.30ට පමණ) ඔහු විනිසුරු ඇල්වින් හෙලර්ස්ටයින් හමුවේ පෙනී සිටිනු ඇත.

Deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, captured by U.S. Delta Force on January 3, are set to make their first court appearance today, January 5, 2026, in a Manhattan federal court. They face multiple charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation, and weapons violations. Maduro is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn and is scheduled to appear before Judge Alvin Hellerstein at noon today.
Trump’s Stern Warning
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning this morning, stating that the U.S. is prepared to launch a "second strike" if the remaining members of the Venezuelan administration do not cooperate. "We are in charge now. If they don’t behave, we will strike again," Trump stated, emphasising the need for total access to Venezuela's oil reserves and a crackdown on drug trafficking.

While Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has called for a respectful relationship with the U.S., the country remains in political uncertainty. Protests have erupted in Caracas, and the UN Security Council is meeting today to deliberate on the legality of the U.S. military intervention.
